Passive Smoking Increases the Mental Pressure

According to a study recently reported by British media, researchers from London University found that passive smoking is not only harmful to physical health, but also destructive to mental health. People who often take passive smoking are likely to suffering from excessive psychological pressure. In addition, the risk of suffering from mental illness is higher.

Tobacco contains nicotine which is neurotoxic and can stimulate the brain’s nerve cells, if smoking for a long time, the sensitivity and accuracy of neural response will drop, the brain perception is damaged and even the nerve cells are damaged permanently. As a result, some psychiatric symptoms may be caused such as insomnia, fatigue, irritability, anxiety and other issues. What’s worse, some severe mental symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, paranoia and loss of consciousness will appear. For people who take passive smoking, especially in a closed place with smokers, the harmful substances they inhaled is not less than the smokers, which is also prone to the above problems.

In addition, many people who do not smoke have an instinctive aversion, or even can’t stand the taste of tobacco. If there are many smokers around them, they will not only bring about negative emotions such as resentment and conflict, but also worried about the health condition made by passive smoking. Particularly in public places, many people can’t tolerate the smokers but suppress their emotions at both physically and psychologically. Gradually, negative emotions such as depression will be slowly accumulated, which finally jeopardizes mental health.
