Children Need Enough Sleep for Growth

A magazine named Sleep in the United States reported on June 6 that a new study showed children who went to bed on schedule and had enough sleep time scored higher in developmental assessment tests.

The researchers surveyed 8,000 children randomly, when the children were 9 months and 4 years old, their parents were interviewed through the phone. The results showed that among variety of sleep habits, children who went to bed on time had developed better than other children. They got high scores at language acceptance test, ability of expression, ability of recognition, word recognition ability and the math ability.

According to the sleep standard recommended by the American Sleep Medicine, the sleep time for pre-school children should be at least 11 hours every night. The researchers found that the children who had less than 11 hours of sleep every night had bad performance at every aspect, which would have negative impact on physical development and academic performance in the future.

The parents can develop an appropriate bedtime plan to help children develop good habits to get enough sleep.
